Araku Tribal Museum – A Peek into the Tribal’s Life

Posted on

On the next and the last day of our trip to Vishakhapatnam, we were visiting a not so commercialized and not populated tourist’s place- Araku Valley and tribal museum of Visakhapatnam

Araku Valley is a Hill station that is located close to the borders of Odisha state, and lies in the Visakhapatnam district of the Andhra Pradesh state.  The place is at a considerable distance from the city of Vishakhapatnam. Spreading over an area of 36 kms and at an altitude between 600 and 900m above the sea level, this place was situated at a distance of 115 kms from the city.

Considering this, we had heavy breakfast and packed some eateries for the way, and started for the destination. On our way, we were playing poker for a while, singing, and even took a nap, till we reached the valley.

The valley is blessed with rich landscape and was having a lovely and cordial weather. The beauty of the valley was engulfing us. The thick cover of forests is present on either side of the valley and the lavish flora and fauna is making our trip all-the-more interesting.  We couldn’t resist stopping for a while and enjoying the cool breeze and fresh air of the region.

We also came across the gorgeous coffee plantations of the valley, and the local tribes with their colorful dresses were passing by, completely ignoring us.

We then moved towards the tribal museum located in the valley. No cameras and phones were allowed in the museum. There were displayed various artifacts that are used in the lifestyles of the tribal people. We hired a guide who explained us all about the exhibits. There were 3-D installations of various village life scenes. The motive was to educate the people with the culture and way of living of the tribal. There was a place where we tried our archery skills (and soon realized that we have no such skills). It didn’t take us more than an hour to explore the place. We stayed at the valley till the evening.

All in all, it was an interesting experience for all of us.
