I went to watch Gunday on the 14th of Feb this year. I don’t think that it is the right movie to watch on Valentine’s Day but it surely is entertaining. It is worth the money you spend on your ticket. This is a typical Bollywood movie with full on drama, action, stunts, fight, dancing, music etc. This movie was perfect for all kinds of audiences and the actors have done a wonderful job.
The film takes you back to the era where partition took place and Bangladesh was created. People lost their homes and became refugees in India. Story revolves are two boys Bikram (Ranveer Singh) and Bala (Arjun Kapoor) who are lost and come to Bengal as refugees. These boys have a friendship that is unbreakable but it evenly does. The director has stretched their childhood scenes way too long keeping us waiting for the entry of Ranveer and Arjun.
As children, Bala and Bikram were introduced to the world of crime and success and they grow to become one of the top mafias in the region. The kids start their journey by stealing coal and going up the ladder of crime. In the movie these two boys are portrayed as strong, courageous and funny Gunday (Goons) who are good at heart and do a lot of charity.
The story takes a new turn when Irrfan Khan and Priyanka Chopra are introduced to the plot. Irrfan plays ACP Satyajeet Sarkar who has taken an oath to bring down the illegal empire of Bala and Bikram and jail them whereas, Priyanka plays the role of (Nandita) a cabaret dancer and love interest of both these friends. The story changes when Bala and Bikram fall in love with Nandita and their so called friendship turns into rivalry. “Cliché Bollywood Twist”.
Post Interval, you will get to see plenty of Bollywood twists and turns and will keep you glued to your seat. The strength of this movie is the chemistry between its male lead “Ranveer and Arjun”, which is the biggest USP of Gunday. Irrfan and Priyanka play a very crucial part and have great screen presence. Music by Sohail Sen is pretty average. Action and cinematography is pretty good, great direction and amazing actors.
Gunday is a very captivating movie. It is a typical Bollywood story that is brilliantly portrayed by the actors. A great watch for any Bollywood lover.
